HatMax Starter · SaaS foundation

The foundation for
your next
SaaS business.

A commercial starter built on Go, htmx, and Postgres. Accounts, organizations, billing, and administration brought together in a codebase you can make your own.

For people building a product

Begin with the common parts.
Build what makes it yours.

Whether you're building a customer portal, a vertical SaaS, or an application for a client, much of the foundation is familiar. Users need accounts. Teams need workspaces. Your business needs a way to manage both.

HatMax Starter is for developers who want that foundation in Go, with server-rendered HTML and a database they control. It is a codebase to develop and operate, rather than a hosted service or a no-code website builder.

What's inside

The parts a SaaS needs.
Designed to work together.

From the first account to daily operations: the application, public pages, and development tools, composed on HatMax.

Identity

Accounts & workspaces

Sign-up, sessions, and two-factor authentication. Give teams their own workspaces, with invitations, membership, and role-based access.

Experience

Onboarding & navigation

Guide users through setup and into the application. Build on shared layouts, validated forms, tables, and pagination, with translations for the languages you serve.

Business

Billing & administration

Manage subscriptions, billing, users, and organizations. Adjust runtime settings from the admin interface, with validation for each setting.

Publishing

Content & documentation

Publish articles in multiple languages and help customers use your product. Organize documentation with search and keep content alongside your application.

Communication

Email & notifications

Adapt transactional templates and choose your mail provider. Let users manage email and in-app notifications, and connect contact forms to your CRM or marketing tools.

Media

Files & storage

Store files locally or with an S3-compatible provider, with signed uploads and controlled access. Prepare images for your screens with resizing, variants, and thumbnails.

Presence

Public pages & insights

Give public pages readable URLs, search metadata, social previews, and a sitemap. Connect privacy-conscious analytics, adapt legal pages, and format numbers and currencies for your audience.

Operations

Jobs & observability

Run scheduled tasks and handle persistent events through Postgres. Follow application activity with logs, request counts, and error reporting.

Delivery

Development & deployment

Work locally with containerized services, test mail, and initial data. Evolve the database with migrations, run isolated database and browser tests in CI, and deploy on your own infrastructure.

From foundation to application

A starting point.
Then your own direction.

Make it your product

Adapt the application structure, screens, and business rules to the product you're building.

Develop through conversation

HatMax's conversational builder helps create features and refine fields and validation, following the toolkit's primitives.

Review the changes

Inspect the proposed plan before it is applied. Keep working with ordinary Go, SQL, and templates.

A stack you can work with

Go. HTML. Postgres.

The same foundation as HatMax OSS, composed into a starting application.

Go

Application logic and explicit component wiring.

htmx

Interaction layered onto server-rendered HTML.

Postgres

Application data and the toolkit's background infrastructure.

Run it where it belongs.

The application runs as a Go process with Postgres, on a VPS such as a Droplet or your own infrastructure. Small interfaces let you replace mail providers, event backends, and job stores as your needs change.

Your domain comes next

A foundation for real applications.

These are directions you could build on top of the Starter, rather than bundled industry applications.

A CRM for your niche

Bring your contact model, sales process, and follow-up rules to a shared team workspace.

Contacts · Pipeline · Follow-up

A restaurant portal

Build the venue-specific menus, booking flows, or customer services your application needs.

Venues · Menus · Customers

A real estate platform

Shape properties, client relationships, and listing workflows around the way an agency works.

Properties · Clients · Listings

Built on HatMax OSS

The toolkit is the foundation.
The Starter is the composition.

HatMax is the open-source toolkit: composable packages for Go web applications. HatMax Starter is the separate commercial product that brings those pieces together with SaaS workflows.

You can use HatMax directly and build your own application. The Starter is for people who want a more complete starting point.

A few practical questions

Before you begin.

What happens when I register interest?

We'll email you when there's important news about the Starter, such as when it's available to buy. No daily emails or spam.

How is it different from HatMax OSS?

HatMax gives you the building blocks. The Starter brings them together in a SaaS application, with accounts, organizations, billing, and administration already connected.

Do I need to know Go?

Yes. You'll work with Go, HTML templates, htmx, and Postgres to adapt the Starter to your product.

How do I deploy it?

The Starter includes deployment guides for DigitalOcean Droplets and setups using Cloudflare, taking you from local development to a running application. You can also run it on your own infrastructure.

Can I use it in a commercial product?

Yes, for your own products or client projects. The license covers building applications with the Starter; redistribution or resale of the template is excluded.

Can I work directly in the code?

Yes. It's Go, SQL, and HTML templates you can edit with your usual tools. The conversational builder is another way to add features and refine your application.
